Apples

My sister-in-law Trista gave me these beauties from her tree this weekend. I have three new neighbors and now I have a great ingredient to whip them up some yummy treats to welcome them to the neighborhood.

When I explained to my sisters that couldn't make an desserts right now because my apple peeler/corer/slicer broke last fall, they all said they don't own one, either. They peel by hand. GASP!

Call me lazy or spoiled, but I'm heading over to the local hardware store to procure myself a little peeler/corer/slicer so I can make some apple crisp, for much less effort than my sisters. Peel away, ladies.

What's your favorite fall dessert?

The first corer/peeler/slicer I ever saw in action was when Sandy was working on her apples. Not even kidding. Thought it was the best thing ever. I own one now. Wouldn't do the apples any other way. So I don't blame you one bit. I love any kind of apple dessert. Probably those apple bars with the crust on them. Yummo. No good recipe for it, though. Sorry.

Ooh, with the white icing drizzled on top? YUM.

Apple bars (yes, with icing), apple pie with ice cream, apple crisp and pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting. I'd do the apple peeling by hand if I could just make a decent crust. But alas, a crust maker I am not.... :-(

Oh, Tara. Do not get me started on pumpkin. YUM.

I want the apple bar recepie with the icing on top! Is it in the cookbook? I too have apples ( but I have to do it the old fashioned way as alas, I don't own a peeler/corer) from a tree that need to be used up.

Thanks, Scandy. I love it too (and was hoping it wasn't just me...) :D

My favorite fall dessert is a scrumptious apple dessert that my mom makes. It has a cream cheese filling baked right in with the apples and it's topped with this crunchy cinnamon topping. My family loves to debate whether it's better hot or cold. I think we just have the debate as an excuse to eat it both ways. :D It's one of my favorite things about fall. Really. :)

I've never used a corer either. Are they easy to use? I can't say that I love peeling by hand but I have a secret. (I skip the whole peeling thing altogether. Shhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone). :)

and yes, I love that photo too, but I am easily distracted by mention of food. :)

My favorite is Grandma's Apple Pie Slices. The one you're talking about with the icing on top. Page 313 in the cookbook.

That apple looks like you can pick it out of the computer and eat it! Yum!

I've never made apple desserts but I'm planning on owning a corer/peeler/slicer when I do! :)

I cannot do without one of those little machines, either. I am probably just not too handy with a knife! But really to do any quantity of apples, a peeler/corer/slicer is very practical.

I love apple crisp, with oatmeal and brown sugar topping, served warm.

What's this cookbook you speak of? It is for sale somewhere?

As for my favorite recipe...that would be anything that I didn't have to make.

I used to love the apple peeler/corer/slicer. Then I moved about five times and never unpacked it.

And in that time, I fell in love with slicing and dicing by hand. (Although, it definitely takes a lot longer!)

My favorite fall dessert? Hmmm... That's kind of tough. I have many! Today, I'll say apple crisp, with cardamom. Tomorrow, it might be pumpkin pie!

Love the picture.

My son borrowed the handy/dandy/corer/slicer/peeler to make 43 apple pies (no kidding); I went to get it back today and discovered that SOMETHING is not quite right with the peeler anymore (no kidding). Should I ask him to get me a new one, or should I trade him the broken one for all his pies?

Apple Perfect Pie (Julie already mentioned it) is absolute tops!
