"Special Delivery"

Before the Christmas program started and the kids' sang their opening song, "Special Delivery", I turned to our friends behind us at church and told them that there was a 95% chance I'd have go up and get Matthew during the program.

For the two past Saturday practices, Matty stood and bawled his head off the whole time. Even though he knew the songs, he didn't want to stand up there with his friends. If he can see me, he wants me. Today, though, they started in their Sunday School rooms and then walked up. He couldn't see me at all. So he didn't sing, but he didn't cry. I'd say it was a victory, Cory would say I was 95% wrong.
I bumped into Pastor Jim as I was walking in to the church. Told him I didn't know who was more nervous, me or Matthew. He assured me I was going to be okay :). What is it about being a mom that wants to protect our kids from all discomfort? I want him to be strong and independent; I also wanted him safe on my lap. One baby step at a time...I still get him for another year and a half before he goes to kindergarten. I'll take 'em.

(Oh, and a very special thank you to his teacher, Mary, who takes incredible care of him and the other three-year-olds. I'm very grateful for her!)

ahhh he looks so adorable! I would say it was an accomplishment! Matty is so cute and despite he is very mellow and not emotional like Grace he definately is sensitive to change! Well done Matty and Mommy. :)

Amy - that's so sweet! I hope he does well. He'll go to kindergarten next year, right?

Penney - yeah, he sure likes his momma. Maybe next year Gracie will be in the program with him! It's pretty stinkin' cute! I can just picture her singing her little heart out with her sweet voice. She's such a singer...

I know how you feel. You just want to protect your babies, don't you? But, this was one baby step for him. And for you!! He looks adorable and I'm sure he looked cute as a button up there!

About 15 seconds after I hung the phone with you today it hit me I didn't even ask how the program went! I almost called you back, but I was a bit doped up and thought it better to wait until I would remember the answer. I'm so glad it went well! And I promise to make there next year- as long as I'm not sick and the roads aren't ice. :)

P.S. He looks super duper hansome!

Yay, Matty! He went up there, that is a HUGE step! And looking quite dapper, I might add! :)

Max was intrigued by the Cabbage-Patch-Wrapped-in-Swaddling-clothes-Jesus, at his program. :) Too much so to participate in singing! Olivia is super shy and gets very nervous on stage. I was just so pleased she went up there, even if she hardly mouthed the words! Sweet, sweet babes of ours. :)
