My new thoughts

Okay, so I've been thinking about this for a couple days re: the election. How much of our decision who we support is simply based on our gut? I finally understand how the anti-Obama people feel...if you feel like I feel about Sarah Palin. I already said I thought her speech was good. But from a deep-down place, I don't like her as a VP candidate (nothing against her as a woman or a mom). I don't trust her. I think she's underqualified. And it mostly comes from a non-rational place...my gut. If you've read the book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell (and if you haven't, you should), there's something to be said for that instinct. It's valid to listen to it and make our decisions based on it.

It'll continue to be an interesting couple months, I'm sure!

Hi Leanne, cute family, happy to be reading your blog and keeping up on your life. Can't say I share your sentiments about Obama and Palin, mine also based on gut instinct, but will cheerfully agree to disagree!!

I suppose mine is probably going with my gut, too. I just don't trust Obama, don't believe him. Personally, I think he is a wonderful speaker. And that's about it. Although his acceptance speech wasn't his best. Some people talk the talk but can't walk the walk. If he gets elected, I hope that's all it is. Because he is so far left, that he just scares me. His church for one, need I say more? Well, I will. If Mark K. spoke like that, I'd be running so fast and I'd never look back. :) I'm just saying. And like Tara said, it's a good thing you and I can agree to disagree. So we can still be friends.

And, Hi Cyndi! (Hey, Leanne you did this on mine!) You commented on my blog once upon a time. Then you disappeared. Good to hear your still out there somewhere.

Lips zipped. :) Love you.

I respectfully disagree. Obama does not have enough experience to be president, speaks too much to the current crowd, and has almost zilch foreign policy experience. In a presidential race, we vote for the next president. Although the VP is important, executive branch privileges (including veto power, and change of residence) go to the President. Heidi

Pete (Heidi?)- I agree. He doesn't have foreign policy experience and he's running for president. But like Mindi believes Palin, I believe Obama. I've read everything I can about him, and I believe him. That's where the original subject of my post comes back in. I think we CHOOSE to believe or not believe what they say. And isn't that the beauty of democracy? Let's face it, neither of Obama nor McCain has had that chance to prove what they could really do as president. That's why we have to make a decision about who we believe can do a better job...

Amen. Go McCain/Palin!!

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is not a pastor anymore. Obama has stated that he most certainly is not in agreement with the Rev’s views. To be sure, I would also leave a church in heart beat if my pastor spread untruths or JUDGED others. Any church that condemns a group of people is not ok with me. God's peace should be wished upon EVEYONE!

Great conversation, Everyone! I thank God that we have the freedom to even have this choice about who will be our next Commander in Chief. Along with that, I thank God that we can agree to disagree, all the while respecting each other, and even remain friends. :)

Isn't it intriguing how our "gut" talks to us? We as people can be so similar, yet our "guts" tell us different things. Odd..

Hi, Mindi! I bop into your blog occassionally still! I'll leave a message now and again to prove it. I promise!

Heidi, I agree - God's peace should be shared and extended to all of His people. We are all His children. :) Only He has the power and right to judge and condemn AND he still loves us! We are instructed to love and carry one another. John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another." :)

Wow, we could cover politics AND religion in this post! That'd be heavy!

I think there are two pete's out there! :) I am Heidi L. formerly Heidi S. from MN married to pete L. I am not sure who the other Pete is... I usually sign my entries with my name... Anyway, good conversation! the next 4 years are guaranteed to be interesting regardless of who gets the presidency. Heidi

I wonder about this too because, until the VP picks, there was still a slight chance that I might've swung either way. However, my gut has never reacted in such a way to any candidate before and I cannot ignore it. And interestingly, the research I have done since then indicates that my gut reaction was most appropriate.

Blink has been on my to-read list for a while now; I really should get to it.
