Appetizers

I love a lot of holiday appetizers: anything with little smokies, meatballs, crackers & cheese, dips, etc. This is one of my favorite, easy, go-to appetizers. It's hot artichoke dip and I serve it with tortilla chips or sliced baguette. It would be good with crackers, too. I'm always looking for new ideas; what's your favorite holiday appetizer??

Hot Artichoke Dip
1/2 c mayo
1/2 c sour cream
1 14oz can artichoke hearts, drained (small or quartered...oh, and in water, not oil)
1 c parmesan cheese
2 c mozz cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper
Mix all together.

Bake at 400 for 20 mins (I usually keep it in a few minutes longer because I like when the edges get brown...)

That sounds good! I make this same thing, but without sour cream and with spinach.

plus, I still am getting confused when I see PENNEY cuz, I think you're talking about me.

Laura - see, Peg makes it with spinach! (Peg - My other Penney has an "e" at the end of her name so that's the difference.) :)

Oh, and Peg? Do you use artichoke and spinach or just spinach?

I don't know if this is considered an appetizer, but I LOVE grandma T's chocolate covered Cherry cookies. We only have them at christmas, and I look forward to those every year.:)

Artichoke and spinach for sure. YUM!

Leanne, I have been trying to leave a comment on your blog a few times. I don't read that often.. because of dial up.. but for some reason my comments don't show. I sign my name under anonymous. I am not sure what I do wrong.. but anyhow.. keep the recipes coming! :) It's fun to hear of new ideas for the holidays. Laura (Kil****) Larson, UP

I love crab dip with veggies or bugles. It sounds funny, but it's canned crab, cream cheese, mayo, and chopped onions and some other seasonings. You bake it, and top it with paprika. It goes quickly at any gathering.

Laura - odd. I have it set so that anyone can post...but I'm not incredibly web-savvy, so I'll check my settings again! I hope you post as frequently as you can; it's really fun to hear from you!

Amy - that sounds delicious. I love crab dip, hot or cold. I love crab pasta salad, too. Do you use a recipe or just throw those things together?

I know you like stuffed mushrooms, so I bet you have your own recipe. Just in case you don't:
Stuffed Mushrooms
12 lg mushrooms
1 TB olive oil
2 cloves minced garlic
3 TB gr. onions, chopped
8 oz cream cheese, soft.
3 TB port wine, opt.
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 c parmesan cheese
3/4 c shredded cheddar
1/4 tsp pepper
2 dash hot sauce

preheat oven to 350. Remove stems from mushrooms. Saute mushroom caps, green onions and garlic until soft. Cool. Mix remaining ingredients and stuff caps. Bake 20-25 min or until lightly browned.
