A few days ago, I took a poll on facebook whether or not you believe in ghosts. I'm taking the same poll here...do you?
I think I do. I've had two experiences in my life where I think there have been ghosts. They creep me out a little and I wish they weren't here, but I'm not really afraid of them. Other than disturb the peace, I don't think they'll do us any harm. I thought we had ghosts the other night; there's the story:
For the past few weeks, I've been thinking I'm hearing things at night. I was in bed one night and I heard a noise. I hate irritating noises, paper blowing in a breeze, the shade bumping against the window, etc. It sounded like the shade cord gently hitting the shade, but every time I turned the light on it would stop and the cord was still. I'd shut the light off and there was the noise again. Mostly I was annoyed; I wasn't scared.
Then, a few night later, Jack woke up crying a couple times. He'd cry, I'd comfort him, he'd be quiet for a ten minutes or so and then wake up crying again. Sad crying. Cory went in to comfort him and he was freaking out. So I decided that I'd just rock him until he fell asleep. When I went in there, he was pointing at his (open) closet (we keep only toys in there) saying, "Lights! Lights!" [Cory insists it was probably a toy. Could be.]
I picked him up and brought him into the living room. He was laying on his back looking at the ceiling for about 15 minutes. Every few minutes he'd say..."What's that, Mommy?" pointing at the ceiling. He's at an age where he says random words that certainly mean something to him, but I have no idea what they are. One of them sounds like "samone." No idea what that means, but he says it all the time. That night, when he was laying on my lap, he kept saying, "Seance, Mommy. Seance, Mommy." I realize that he couldn't possibly know what that word means, I'm just saying he said it.
When he fell asleep, I put him back down and he slept the rest of the night. I had asked the ghosts to move on in the peace of God and I don't know if they're (it's?) still here. Or if it ever was. I just think there was reason enough to wonder.

ETA: Sunday, Feb 1: This morning Jack was in my room. He was pointing up at my door saying, "What's that, Mommy? A guy? Look, Mommy, a guy!" [Could have been "sky" I supposed. Still.]

It was a toy, and Jack-Jack forgot what the ceiling was called, and he was saying "stamps", not "seance". Are you low on stamps??? :D I have to admit, you telling me the story was a bit spooky. But then I could hear Cory seeing "whoooo...." and you said he had a blanket over him, and I had to laugh. No more spookiness.
By the way, what did you do with your other background? Not feeling the LOVE anymore?
I just didn't like that background. At all. The brown was too dark. This one I love. It's simple and green...two things I love.
Yes, it was pretty spooky. The more time that passes, the less spooky it is, though, and less real it seems...
You can't have a ghost blog without a ghost picture.
I've got a good one, post it.
Absolutely will not use Cory's picture. This story is not scary.
Hmmmm....says the skeptic.
I don't know.... I don't like to think there are ghosts, but once Loretta and I were the only ones home once, and both of us were in bed, when we heard someone or something brushing thier teeth in the bathrooom. We got so creeped out we went and left the house and slept across the st. at the neighbors. She always said she heard people in the basement, but I never heard anything but the teeth incident that one time.
That's a little eery. I laughed at Laura's take on it. Stamps? You needed stamps! Poor Jack...
I believe in ghosts. My mom and dad have one at their house. We could write a book on all the weird things it has done. I don't get nervous about it unless I'm there by myself. Usually it just does mischevious things. Once when Ethan and I were the only ones there, he was like "Mom! Someone keeps saying my name from downstairs. Can I go see who it is?" I was so creeped out! Yeah, a lot of weird things have happened there. I should write a post on it! People would still be skeptics though because I didn't believe in ghosts either until... I did.
Ok .. the lights thing might sway me. The ceiling - I'd just figure he was asking about the ceiling and the seance was a total coincidence. The noise - I'd figure it was a moth or something - since they are drawn to light.
I believe in spirits, but I am also very pragmatic and logical. ;-)
I don't want to believe in ghosts, and I certainly don't want to encounter one. Except that I did have my own encounters with one at one house. Never saw anything, though. Thank goodness! I'd probably go out of my head if I actually saw anything.
Some of the things that happened could be explained away (the lights in the closet, the noises you heard, him saying "seance"), but him pointing to the ceiling asking what that is...I'd be freaked out by that.
When Seth was smaller, and I'd be burping him over my shoulder, sometimes he'd laugh and smile as if someone was talking to him. It creeped me out, but I just convinced myself that he just liked the pretty lights. :)
Hope that if you did have a "visitor," that it has moved on.
I only believe in ghosts when they are around :) I have stories from one house I lived in, dishes rattling in an empty sink, water tunring itself on... And I also saw a little boy. Blogged about that one awhile back.
My current apartment doesn't have ghosts- so I can choose to forget they exsist! LOL
I totally believe in ghosts. Totally.
Really...."A guy". Alright, who'd ya have over?
BUSTED!!!! By your husband. On your blog. For shame.
Actually, the possibilities of ghosts make me uneasy. It's a little creepy. But could be true. I remember that we had a light that would turn on without explanation at the ghetto in Plymouth. It was in my bedroom, too!
I don't believe in them because once you do, you will see them.
Fact.

In at least two places we've lived, I subconsciously believed in them and that's when I heard them.
In our last place, Carter was a baby and he kept pointing in the corner of the living room. He'd often look up there like he was watching something too. Happened many times.
Started to turn this skeptic into a believer...
Maybe. Like I said, I don't believe in them therefore I won't see them. I figure it's safer that way. ;)
I beleive in ghosts. They are here because of unfinished business. I've felt them and no that they are troubled souls. They don't creep me out I just try to understand their past and help them move on.
